Lent

Lent begins today.

I was raised independent Christian Church. I went to Point University. I never really heard about Lent until I went throught RCIA.

Despite being a so-called cafeteria Catholic, faith means a lot to me. I think sacrificing something leading up to Easter or adding positive behaviors (such as increased prayer) are all things which help focus on grace.

For the next forty days, I’m going to give up something and add something. I’m giving up my comfort. I think too often we as middle class Americans forget how comfortable we have it. This will help me focus and remember to pray for others.

The thing I’m adding is I’m going to read Catholic Devotionals for Fridays and Lent. Putting good things in is just as important as taking bad things out.

What are you doing for Lent? Who is helping you stay on track?
